Summer 2017: Sing, play, learn!

Learning doesn't stop during the summer -- in fact, we offer a variety of opportunities for students of all ages. From singing to playing to performing, there is something for everyone. Students who continue weekly lessons when summer classes are occurring may participate free of charge. Even their immediate families may participate at no additional cost!

 

Choral Opportunities

Adventurers Youth Choir Camp

Join two of Eau Claire's most experienced music educators, Cathy Reitz and Traci Ohlmann, on a journey of global proportions. Students will improve their singing abilities and their appreciation for music in its many forms as they explore music and instruments from around the world. A concert on the last day of camp will showcase what they have learned for family and friends.

 

Week of July 11th

1st through 4th graders: 9am to 12pm

5th through 8th graders: 1pm to 4pm

$59 (additional siblings, $19)

Chippewa Valley Generations Choir

For ages 6 and up (adults included) and all abilities

 

4 weeks, from Thurs., June 8th to June 29th

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 11 am

Meets at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (1120 Cedar St, Eau Claire)

$20 per person or participate as a whole family for $30

Free for current students of the ECMS and their families

Performance: July 8th at the The Inaugural Family Day in Downtown Eau Claire

Lift your voices with singers young and old -- friends and families -- and join director Cathy Reitz for a summertime performance at the The Inaugural Family Day in Downtown Eau Claire.

Ukulele Opportunities

Ukulele Camps

Beginners: Ages 8 through 12

3 to 4 pm: Monday through Friday, week of June 12th

Showcase for friends and family on Friday at 3:30 pm

$44 (additional siblings, $10)

Free for current students of the ECMS and their families

 

Beginners: Ages 13 and up (including adults)

4:30 to 5:45 pm: Monday through Thursday, week of June 12th

$34 (additional siblings, $10)

Chippewa Valley Ukulele Orchestra: Summer Session

3 weeks: Mondays from 6 to 7:30 pm

June 12, 19, and 26

Performance: Sunday, 8 June at the Family Day

$29 (includes a free t-shirt), free for current ECMS students

To wrap up our first season of the orchestra, we'll have a special summer session to prepare for our performance as part of the Family Day at Phoenix Park. Haven't played with us before? No problem! We can share the music with you ahead of time and we'll have extra instructors on hand at each rehearsal to work on parts. Join us for this fun opportunity to make music with others.

Beyond Basics Ukulele Series: All Ages

For students of all ages who are comfortable playing the basic chords in the keys of C, G, and F

 

Do you want to extend your technique? This series will introduce moveable chord shapes that will allow you to play in more keys and add new sounds to your musical vocabulary. We will also explore techniques like fingerstyle playing, advanced strumming patterns, and creating solo arrangements using melodies and chordal accompaniment.

 

3 Weeks: Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm

Other Opportunities

Campfire Songs with Victoria

All ages welcome

 

Learn to make music with your friends and family around the warmth of a campfire. Bring along your voice or instrument (or both) and Victoria will lead the group through all the sing-a-long songs you'll need to get started. You'll learn chords and lyrics and work on singing while playing in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Have a special song that you want to learn? Victoria will help you figure it out and share it with the group.

 

3 weeks: Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm

60-minutes of instruction, additional time afterwards for playing and socializing

(Note: Outdoor meetings are weather dependent. In the case of rain, the group will meet indoors at the music school.)

Group Guitar for Beginners

For students age 13 and up (adults included)

 

4 weeks: Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm

July 11, 18, 25, and Aug. 1

$64, free for current students of the ECMS

Limit of 6 students

For absolute beginners: This class will introduce you to the joy of making music with the guitar. Students will learn proper technique, chords, and scales as they play songs together as an ensemble. Taught by singer/songwriter Tim Litscher of the Evergreen Grassband. Appropriate for students age 13 and up who would like to learn how to play the acoustic guitar. 

Registered students are eligible to get 10% off a new guitar at Pedal's Music in downtown Eau Claire.

Music Makers: Water Music Series

For children 1 to 5 and their families

 

3 weeks: Wednesdays at 9:30 am

1st session: June 14, 21, and 28

2nd session: Aug. 9, 16, and 23

$24 per family, free for families of current ECMS students

Join Mari Carlson for a musical exploration of water: water instruments, water songs, water dances, and more. Each class will last about 45 minutes with time for free play afterwards.

Summer Jazz Jam

The best way to learn music is to play with others, so join us for these weekly jam sessions led by one of Eau Claire's top jazz musicians, Paul Brandt. Each week will feature a lesson focusing on a different aspect of improvisation plus time for playing as a group under Paul's guidance. Student's can even stay after the 60-minute session to continue making music!

Summer Rock Band

Join us for this unique opportunity to work with one of Eau Claire's preeminent musicians and educators, Eric "Pedals" Thompson, as you make music in a band. Students will write their own song and learn two or more cover songs along with music theory, ensemble playing, and songwriting. Cap off the experience with a show at the Plus!

High school students and adults

-$99

-$59 for students who are taking weekly private lessons at ECMS or Pedals Music during the course

Summer Funk Band

Have fun making music with other this summer in our funk band! Horns, vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, drums -- many instruments are needed for this sophisticated style. Students will meet in sectionals the first two weeks to hone their parts before working together as a full ensemble. Cap off the experience with a show at the Plus!

Best suited for high school students and adults. Younger students may be admitted with an audition.
