Eau Claire Music School Instructors


The dedicated and experienced instructors at the Eau Claire Music School are here to meet the needs of our students. Since our instructors are employees (not independent contractors), we can work to find the best match for your musical development and your schedule. We offer the widest range and lessons and lesson times in the Chippewa Valley.

Are you locally based and interested in working one or more afternoons/evenings a week during the after school and early evening hours? Ideal candidates would be able to stay on with us for a few years or more and build their studio as ECMS continues to grow our family friendly business.

Minimum commitment to teach lessons weekly for an entire calendar school year (September - June)

Prior teaching experience or a degree in music or education

Nick Poss

Nick grew up in Eau Claire where he took full advantage of the city's vibrant music scene. He did his undergraduate work in music theory at UW-Eau Claire and earned a MA and PhD in ethnomusicology at Ohio State. After teaching in Ohio, Nick returned with his family to Wisconsin to become a director of music and liturgy at a church. The Posses jumped at the opportunity to take over the Eau Claire Music School when their friends, the Smets family, were ready to move on.


Education: Bachelor's Degree from UW - Eau Claire in Music Theory, MA and PhD in Ethnomusicology from Ohio State


Lessons: Piano, Old-Time Banjo, and Ukulele

Paul Brandt

Paul has played with Meridene, Adelyn Rose, The Gentle Guest, and University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Jazz ensembles where he studied jazz piano under Scott Currier.

Colin Carey

Colin has played drum set for 12 years. In school, he studied classical percussion and played in multiple jazz ensembles. He currently plays in The Dust of Men, Rivers, and performs with the Chippewa Valley Symphony. His playing blends the dynamic touch of classical music with the rhythmic diversity of Jazz.


Education: Bachelor's Degree from UW - Eau Claire in Music Liberal Arts

Tim Caturia

Tim is a low brass instrumentalist from Menomonie, Wisconsin.  An active member of the local music scene, he has performed with local band Klazmazel, the Forward Brass Band, and pit orchestras for several Eau Claire theater productions. He has also been a member and soloist on euphonium with the Ludington Guard Band in Menomonie since 2009.


Education: Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UW-Eau Claire with a focus on audio and event production


Lessons: Brass instruments, including: baritone, euphonium, tuba, trumpet, etc.


Interests: Camping, swimming, arranging, and tabletop games with friends

Dan Colburn

Dan is multi-instrumentalist from Stillwater, MN whose main focus is teaching and playing jazz and contemporary music. Dan currently plays in UW-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensemble I and leads the folk-rock band Boats and Bridges. He has also played with the River City Jazz Band, Sean Carey, and Ruben.


Education: Pursing a Bachelor's Degree at UW-Eau Claire in Music Liberal Arts

Maya Fabian

Maya Fabian is a choral music education major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Originally from Stoughton, WI, she has vocal experience in a variety of settings: classical, theatrical, and jazz. In addition to her studies, Maya performs with her church choir and both the Women's Concert Chorale and Concert Choir at the university.

Bora Hong-Evans

Bora Hong graduated from the top female music school in Seoul, South Korea in 2008. Along with performing in various musicals, TV shows, and music festivals, Bora has taught saxophone and piano to students of all ages and experience levels. Since moving to the Chippewa Valley, she has worked many local musicians as well as playing in the Eau Claire Municipal Band.

Jeff Jaworski

Jeff is a practicing musician with over ten years of teaching and performing experience. As a solo classical guitar performer, he has collaborated with flute, bassoon, oboe, piano, guitar, and saxophone. His main interests are fundamental and classical guitar techniques, but he also has experience in popular styles and music theory making him a great fit for students wishing to learn any style.

Deirdre Jenkins

Deirdre has worked as a session vocalist, recording artist, songwriter, and vocal instructor for the past 35 years. She has recorded and sung with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Pat Metheny, and Cornelius Bumpus (of Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers.) In addition to developing her own teaching method, Deirdre has experience as an instructor in a Waldorf school, which uses a holistic approach to developmentally appropriate learning. Her current musical project is a collaboration with Joe Maurer entitled, Squirrel Talk.


Lessons: Voice (jazz, folk, pop, etc.) and songwriting

Tim Litscher

Tim is the lead singer/songwriter/guitarist for the unconventional bluegrass band, Evergreen Grass Band. The band, which also features instructor, Greg Manning, has won Volume One's reader poll for best bluegrass for the past six years.  In addition to guitar and mandolin, Tim played piano and trumpet growing up in Eau Claire.

Interests: fishing, kayaking, and agate hunting

Greg Manning

Greg has extensive performance and teaching experience with all levels and styles of guitar, bass, and other plucked strings. He has played guitar for 20+ years, and has a background in songwriting, music theory, and performance technique. In addition to his solo work, Greg is currently recording and touring with the Evergreen Grass Band as an upright bassist and vocalist and with Irie Sol as lead guitarist.


Education: Bachelor's Degree from DePaul University in Music and Interlochen Arts Academy in Guitar Performance

Adam Nussbaum

Adam has played the drums for 20 years. He plays jazz, funk, R&B, rock, and gospel in several groups in the Chippewa Valley, including Dames, the Shillelagh Lads, the Nick Foytik Band, and the Michael Rambo Project. He has also been a featured marimba soloist with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra.


Education: Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University in English and a Master's Degree from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Theology

Paul Nuyda

Paul Grew is originally from Milwaukee where he studied piano at the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music. He performs both as a soloist and accompanist ranging in styles from sacred to rock. His is currently a composition major at UW-EC with an emphasis on piano where he has earned scholarships based on his juried performances.

Peter Phippen

Peter is a Grammy Award Nominee, International Acoustic Music Awards Nominee and Native American Music Awards Nominee. Peter is a performer and recording artist specializing in Native American style flutes and other traditional flutes from around the world. As an educator, he has researched the history and performance technique of flutes both ancient and modern and has shared his knowledge in lessons, workshops, and artist residencies. Growing up, Peter's main instrument was bass guitar, which he continues to play in both recording sessions and live performances today.

Elizabeth Ranzenberger

Elizabeth teaches 3rd/4th grade in Hallie and in the past taught 1st/2nd grade and K-4 general music. She began teaching piano as a freshman in high school and found it to be one of her favorite things to do - blending her love of music with her love of teaching. She has participated in a local piano competitions, church bands, choir, and nursing home entertainment.

Mikayla Rolling

Mikayla has been playing trumpet since 5th grade and is currently a Music Education major at UWEC studying trumpet with Robert Baca. She is originally from Waseca, MN where her high school band director inspired her to become director herself. Mikayla can be heard in a variety of UWEC ensembles, including the Wind Symphony, marching band, Jazz III.

Victoria Shoemaker

Victoria grew up studying flute and piccolo. She went on to study bamboo flutes, native American style flutes, and other traditional flutes with Grammy nominated recording artist, Peter Phippen. In 2015, Victoria earned a degree in music education from the VanderCook College of Music. She maintains an active performing schedule with several bands and writes and records her own music.
